Babayeva/ On 9 March, Azerbaijan like all post-Soviet countries celebrates the 63rd anniversary of Soviet Union’s victory over fascism in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Over 600,000 Azerbaijanis combated and 300,000 of them fell in action, 120 deserved Soviet Union Hero status. On the Victory Day Trend News interviewed Sakina Mammadrza Mammadova, one of a few surviving Great Patriotic War veterans. She voluntarily set out on battlefront from Sheki region on the first day of war and deserved 27 medals. Question: Why did you left for battlefront? Answer: Before the war I worked pharmacist at a Sheki drugstore. I graduated from the medical technical school. As I did not have 3-year working experience, the Medical University did not admit me. Once I heard that the war began, I voluntary went to the military registration and enlistment office and then headed for the battlefront without agreement of my family. I was not even 20 then. I knew nothing about war, but I resolutely left for war without scare. My mother wished me soon return home. Question: What do you remember about your first days in the battlefront?
